New York’s Smallest New Apartments

New York – the city that never sleeps! Everyone wants to be a part of Big Apple and that mostly means living on Manhattan. Because of that, city’s housing stocks are just pushed to the limits. There is just not enough space to put all New Yorkers and New Yorkers wannabes onto a 23 square-mile island. So, last summer the mayor’s office decided to organize the competition called ‘adAPT NYC’. The designers had to create a new kind of New York apartment, the one that will take up less space than the current legal space limit for a dwelling (450 square foot).

So, major’s office finally announced the winner! This unit has a 70 cubic-foot kitchen with a fold down counter, a storage loft and a bathroom. The plan is to build these kind of apartments in a city owned building in the Kips Bay neighborhood. You can read more about this project here.
